About us

Wesleyan Building Brothers (WBB) Is a spin-off from the Building Brothers (BB) Ministry (http://buildingbrothers.org) .

Dan Schaffer, Founder of BB, has invested more than a decade in mentoring, tutoring and certifying the leadership of the GCUMM and UMM in the teachings of the ministry.   Dan has more than four decades of service in men’s ministry that includes being one of the four founders of promise Keepers and the author of Spiritual Fathers: Restoring the Reproductive Church. As a result of this cooperative relationship, Dan has graciously given permission for us to use his materiel within the UMC.  WBB maintains an “Endorsed” relationship within the GCUMM by providing meaningful ministry with good business practices.

George Houle has served more than three decades in men’s ministry at all levels from the local church to national level.  He has a Masters in Christian Ministry and is certified within the UMC to serve as a paraprofessional (non-salaried position).  After meetings with GCUMM leadership and Dan Schaffer, George launched the WBB vision of the ministry beginning in Kansas.

Larry Burian, past president of the Virginia Conference United Methodist Men was instrumental in bring the process to Virginia in 2009.  During the sixth generation the conference inaugurated phase training led by two Virginia United Methodist Men, David Bean of Culpepper UMC in Culpepper, Virginia, and Johnnie Draughon of Community UMC in Virginia Beach.   This milestone opens the way to expand the ministry in greater numbers than has been possible in the past.

In 2015 David Bean was instrumental in bringing the process to the United Methodist Men of Cuba.  This international expansion also shows great potential for expanding the ministry.
